Domain Farm is a UK company that acquires undervalued domain names and turns
them into working media businesses. We are a Nominet registrar, so we buy at the source rather
than through a reseller.
What we actually do
Every day a few thousand .uk domains are released back into the available pool.
Most are worthless. A small number are not: names that carry years of real coverage, an exact
match for something people search for, or simply a word short enough to be worth owning
whatever happens.
We find those, we buy them, and then we do the part most domain investors skip. We build on
them. A caught domain becomes a publication, a directory, a comparison tool or a service
business, with its own audience and its own revenue.
Some we keep. Some we sell once they are earning. Holding a name and hoping somebody offers
for it is not a business, it is a bet.
Why being a registrar matters
Registrar tag DOMAINFARM. That has three practical consequences:
- We compete for released names directly at the registry, not through an intermediary.
- When we sell a
.uk domain, we make the IPS tag change ourselves, normally within
a working day of cleared funds. Nothing for the buyer or the seller to get wrong.
- We are accountable to Nominet for how we behave, which is a constraint we are happy to
have.

How we think about it
A domain on its own is an option, not an asset. It becomes an asset when something is running
on it that people use. That is the whole model, and it is why we would rather own fifty names we
have built on than five thousand we have not.
We take broken dreams and finish them with modern tech.
